Modoc Wildfire Grows To Nearly 5500 Acres

A wildfire in the Modoc National Forest remained very active overnight due to low humidity levels. The Stone Fire has grown to over 5445 acres. On Friday crews are working to protect structures along Highways 139 and 84. Crews will be constructing lines ahead of the fires edge from the Pit River northeast toward Washington Mountain. The fire is currently about 1 mile south of Highway 139. Crews expect additional fire activity and are especially weary of cumulus buildup that can cause strong gusting winds. A public meeting will be held Friday afternoon at 4PM and the Canby Community Hall.
