Wrong-Way Driver Who Killed Man Faces Life In Prison

A 28-year-old Red Bluff woman will serve at least 18 years in prison for driving the wrong way on Interstate Five and intentionally crashing head-on into another car, killing the driver. On January 7th Grace Elizabeth Ward was distraught and suicidal, and had been talking on her cell phone to someone about her intent to kill herself. She sat on the roadside for about 7 minutes before driving through the median cable barrier and heading south in the northbound lanes. Ward drove directly toward another car. The driver was able to swerve out of the way so ward tried to hit another car, and then another, finally making head-on contact near Riverside Drive in Anderson with a car driven by a medical student from Oregon. 29-year-old Ryan John Folsom died of his injuries after arriving at the hospital. Ward suffered a broken leg. On August 17th Ward entered a guilty plea to second degree murder. She’ll be sentenced to life in prison, with parole eligibility after 18 years.
