Carr Fire Containment Nears 100%, Hirz Fire Remains 31% Contained

Containment on the Carr Fire is coming slowly to a close, with a slight increase to 97% Tuesday. Heavy burning continues on the interior of the fire area as crews work to extinguish hotspots and widen containment lines. The acreage remains at 229,651. No more structures are threatened following the loss of 1,079 homes, 22 businesses and 500 other buildings. Less than 600 personnel remain on the Carr Fire.

Containment on the Hirz Fire on the McCloud Arm of Lake Shasta remains at 31% as the size has grown to 30,825 acres. The human-caused fire began along Gilman Road and has proven stubborn on the Tombstone Ridge Area on the northwest side. The eastern and southern portions of the fire are holding well. 2174 personnel from various agencies are working the Hirz Fire. No structural damage has been reported and nearly all evacuation orders are lifted. Boat access is closed on the McCloud Arm of the lake just above Holiday Harbor, though Shasta Caverns is open for visitors. A community meeting on the Hirz Fire will be held Thursday evening at 6PM at the Dunsmuir Community Center.
