Weather Increases Activity On Hirz Fire, Carr Remains 97% Contained

The Carr Fire is slowly approaching containment, now at 97%, but a lot of material is still burning on the interior of the fire. The size remains the same at 229,651 acres. No more structures are threatened following the loss of 1,079 homes, 22 businesses and 503 other buildings. Hundreds more were damaged. Just 505 personnel are still assigned to the Carr Fire.

Containment on the Hirz Fire on the McCloud Arm of Lake Shasta 10 miles southeast of Dunsmuir is now 35% after burning 30,044. The human-caused fire began August 9th along Gilman Road. It continues to spread closer to Tombstone Mountain as an inversion layer lifted Wednesday, causing increased fire activity on the northern half. No structural damage has been reported and nearly all evacuation orders are lifted. Boat access is closed on the McCloud arm of the lake just above Holiday Harbor, though Shasta Caverns is open for visitors. A community meeting on the Hirz Fire will be held Thursday evening at 6PM at the Dunsmuir Community Center.
