Following Wednesday night’s city council meeting, it seems unlikely that the Redding Library budget will be tapped for public safety. The four officers of Redding’s Neighborhood Policing Unit and three firefighter positions will be lost unless the city can find $800,000. The positions have so far been paid for with one-time non-renewable funding sources. Other options include raising building permit fees or planning permit fees, the recreation division’s budget and the convention and visitors bureau budget.
