Heavy Smoke Blanketing Area, Forces A Number Of School Closures

Heavy smoke from wildfires is again covering the North Valley. The smoke varies by location, but is considered unhealthy in many areas, especially for sensitive groups. If you’re indoors, you’re advised to keep doors and windows closed, use air conditioning instead of swamp coolers. Do not use your air conditioner’s “fresh air intake” mode. If you’re driving, keep your windows closed and use your air conditioner’s “inside air conditioning” mode.

Because of heavy smoke, many area schools are sending students home early. Among them are Gateway Union School District, Happy Valley Elementary, Redding School District, Grant School District. Earlier Friday, Shasta High U-Prep, Pioneer and Freedom Community Day Schools announced they were closing early.
