Trinity Sheriff’s Office Seeking Donations To Fund K9 Program

The Trinity County Sheriff’s office is up in arms about the loss of service from their K9s. The department’s K9 unit was re-established in 2012 when Johnny the K9 was partnered with Sergeant Trujillo. The following year Kash the K9 entered service with Sergeant Cavalli. Since then the dogs assisted in arresting hundreds of suspects and have sniffed out thousands of pounds of drugs. More importantly, the dogs have repeatedly placed themselves in harm’s way to protect their human partners. One of those encounters led to Johnny getting stabbed in 2016. He recovered and has provided more indispensable service. The department was deeply saddened recently when Kash died of an unexpected illness. Now Johnny is sick, and currently under veterinary care. It’s believed that he’ll recover, but not to the level necessary to return to work. The Trinity County Sheriff’s Office is now turning to the public in hopes of keeping their K9 program alive. The sheriff’s auxiliary is accepting donations in hopes of purchasing two more dogs. Checks or money orders can be sent to P.O. Box 427, Weaverville, 96093.
