A possibility of rain this weekend could greatly improve the outlook of firefighting efforts. Overall containment of the Delta Fire has been reduced to 97%, with full containment expected next Friday. The total size is 62,059 acres, with 20 structures destroyed. A fire that spotted outside the containment lines of the Delta Fire Tuesday afternoon has been remapped and is now estimated at 1,340 acres. The large spot fire is burning in Bear Gulch off the southwest corner of the main fire. Crews have held it north of Dog Creek Road and a dozer line has been completed along the ridges to the north of it. There’s also a 14 acre spot fire on Onion Creek Ridge, and a fireline has been completed around it. A helicopter has been working hot spots east of Pollard Flat where trees have been torching. Boaters on Trinity Lake are being warned to watch for aircraft and move toward the shore to allow them space for scooping water. Mop-up, suppression repair, and overhaul is actively underway although some of that work has been delayed as resources have been sent to fight the flare-ups in Bear Gulch. There are no restrictions on Interstate Five and all mandatory evacuations are lifted.
