Feds Begin Rounding Up Wild Horses In Modoc Forest

The Forest Service is pleased with the first day of their wild horse roundup in Modoc County. The goal is to gather around 1000 of the Wild Mustangs and Burros from the Devil’s Garden Plateau. 66 horses were gathered Wednesday from a location north of Big Sage Reservoir. Officials say none of the horses were injured in the round-up, which continues again Thursday. A number of critics of the practice have expressed concern about the fate of the horses, fearing that they could be bought by people intending to sell them for slaughter overseas. The horses are being sold for as little as $1 each.
