RPD Upgrades Records Management System

There are improvements coming to the Redding Police Department’s record management system. According to Crime Statistician Mike Murphy, the current technology is decades old. Among the expected benefits is a quicker turnaround time updating the department’s online crime map. The map shows where various crimes have been committed, including homicide, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary and vehicle theft. The map can be searched by address or zoomed in and out. Information is available by month or several months can be combined. As of now, the process is labor-intensive, meaning that the online map is several months behind. To view the map, go to reddingpolice.org and click the ‘crime map’ button. The new records management system has just been implemented. The mapping improvements should be in place by early next year.
