Redding Man Sentenced For Ramming Police Car

A man who rammed an Anderson Police car in an effort to get away has been sentenced. On August 5th an APD detective in the Factory Outlets parking lot spotted a Buick sedan being driven erratically and then he noticed that the driver was 33-year-old Eric Daniel Hancock, a wanted man considered armed and dangerous with an active felony warrant. The detective was there as part of an undercover operation to meet Hancock and make a heroin purchase. When the Buick was a safe distance from crowded areas a felony stop was attempted but Hancock turned around and tried to leave by the north exit. A patrol car was positioned there, so Hancock turned the Buick around again to try another exit but another officer blocked him. After running into the police car, Hancock was taken into custody. A 22-year-old woman in the Buick had apparently been kidnapped. Hancock was booked for that, as well as several other felonies. In the Buick, officers reportedly found heroin and ballistic vests. The officer in the car he hit suffered a minor neck injury. Hancock made a plea deal for assault on a peace office with a deadly weapon, and he’s been sentenced to 5 years 8 months in state prison. Hancock is also pending federal charges in an unrelated case involving guns and drugs.
