The Democratic challenger to California’s First Congressional District seat has raised far more money than any previous challenger. Audrey Denney is running against Republican incumbent Doug LaMalfa. Her campaign manager estimates they’ve raised more than $900,000 in contributions. Denney vowed early on in her campaign not to accept contributions from corporate donors outside the district. In the last congressional race in 2016, Democrat Jim Reed raised less than $140,000 compared to LaMalfa’s more than $800,000.
