Crews Contain Separate Fires Sparked Near Homeless Camps

Redding Firefighters battled two small vegetation fires, one to start the weekend, and one to finish it. Friday night engines were called at 10:23PM to a fire in the wooded area north of Lawncrest Cemetery off East Cypress Avenue. That fire was held to about a quarter acre of dry grass and brush. It was human caused and investigators say it originated from a homeless camp. Another fire broke out a little after 5 O’clock Sunday afternoon near Caterpillar Road and Prestige Way off Highway 273 in North Redding. That blaze was in thick brush and was held to about an acre. It was also human caused and may have come from one of the homeless camps in the area.
