A fire caused major damage to a house on the Tehama County side of Cottonwood early Thursday morning. Firefighters responded at around 5:40AM to a house on Laurel Lane off Hooker Creek Road a little south of Evergreen School. The cause was undetermined and there was no indication that the fire was related to the series of suspicious fires just to the north in and around Cottonwood. The fire destroyed a residential add-on to a large home where a caregiver lived, causing an estimated $100,000 damage. Two cats died in the fire.
