Solar Carport Will Provide Energy At Shasta College

Shasta College is moving closer to energy self-sufficiency with additional solar power. A solar carport in the east parking lot will combine with an established solar array at the north end of campus for a total of 2.6 Megawatts, providing 80% of the annual electricity needs for the college’s main campus. The combined generation of the photovoltaic systems will be more than 4 Million Kilowatt hours annually. The systems also help the state meet its goal of 60% renewable energy by 2030 and 100% by 2045. The high-efficiency installations will offset nearly 3 metric tons of carbon emissions, improving regional air quality. A 483 kilowatt storage system will allow the energy to be used during on and off peak hours.
