A man who was once an elementary school teacher in Redding has been declared a sexually violent predator. 36-year-old Joshua Hoffman was a fifth grade teacher at Manzanita School when he was charged in 2008 with 12 counts of lewd and lascivious acts with children under 14-years-old. Eleven of those counts involved students in his class, while the other was a child he molested several years prior. Hoffman pleaded guilty to three counts and was sentenced to 8 years in prison. While behind bars, Hoffman was given a routine psychological screening that’s given to all sex offenders. A prison psychologist diagnosed him with Pedophilic Disorder and said he posed a risk of re-offending if released. On Wednesday, a Shasta County jury concurred with that opinion. Hoffman will be indefinitely committed to Coalinga State Hospital for treatment of his disorder. He won’t be released unless his diagnosis changes.
