Man Killed In Rollover Crash On Highway 299

A Trinity County man was killed in a rollover crash Sunday morning, according to the Trinity Journal. At 6:40AM the 21-year-old man from Burnt Ranch was riding in a car driven by a 16-year-old Willow Creek girl. They were westbound on Highway 299 a couple of miles east of Salyer when they crossed a bridge that was apparently icy on the road surface. Apparently unaware of the ice, the girl was driving at around 60 miles an hour, which the CHP says was too fast. The car slid out of the lane and struck a raised asphalt curb, then a dirt embankment. As the car rolled over, the passenger, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected. He suffered major head trauma and was flown to Mercy Hospital in Redding, where he died of his injuries. The driver was wearing her seatbelt and walked away from the crash uninjured. Neither of the names have been released.
