Anderson Man Arrested For Identity Theft

Anderson Police have arrested a man on federal charges of aggravated identity theft and bank fraud. 37-year-old William Ashley of Anderson was previously arrested in March after officers found him to be in possession of mail belonging to almost 100 different victims. The investigation continued and it was discovered that Ashley had stolen several of the victims identity, stealing the victims money and opening fraudulent credit accounts in their names. APD worked with U.S. Postal Investigators and were able to develop a case. On Tuesday, Anderson Police Officers arrested Ashley, who has been transferred into federal custody in Sacramento. During the investigation, Ashley actually contacted an APD supervisor to complain that officers took their investigations too seriously.
