Over 200 Remain Unaccounted For After Camp Fire

Even though the Camp Fire in Butte County is fully contained, the horror for thousands remains. 203 people are still unaccounted for, although Sheriff Kory Honea still suggests that many of those don’t know they are on the list of missing persons and is hoping that family members or friends will have them come forward. DNA testing is being used to identify remains that are still being found in the burned area. That number is still at 88. 13,696 residences were destroyed in the fire which was declared fully contained over the weekend. Many evacuees still aren’t being allowed into the area due to unsafe conditions. Utilities need to be restored, and roads need to be cleared of debris before the area can be opened. Some still don’t know the fate of their homes or businesses. The Camp Fire destroyed over 153,000 acres.
