The storm system that moved through the North State Thursday wreaked havoc in Butte County, and authorities say people in about a dozen homes need to be rescued from flash floods. Butte County Sheriff’s Sgt. Brad Meyer says that the situation Thursday is serious and rafts are being deployed to rescue people. He says water is a couple of feet deep in some places. The National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning for the Camp Fire area through 3PM, then extended it until 9:15PM. Rainfall in the burn area was reported at an inch or more per hour. Swift water rescue teams were helping people stranded in vehicles on a road that flooded after a downpour in the Paradise Area. Rick Carhart, a spokesman with the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, says several vehicles were trapped on area roads. The Chico Police Department reported widespread flooding, downed trees and downed power lines. In addition, Highway 99 south of Chico was closed for a time due to flooding. In Shasta County, Cal-Trans crews reporting some minor rock slides and mudslides on Highway 299 West and have been monitoring other highways.
