A man is in Shasta County Jail after a reported display of indecency in Downtown Redding. At around 11 O’clock Monday morning, 33-year-old Matthew Pierce had just caused a disturbance at the Napa Auto Parts at California and Shasta Streets when he wandered over to the People of Progress Thrift Shop nearby. A woman and her 4-year-old daughter had been shopping there and when they walked out they found Pierce loitering near their car. He reportedly began yelling at them, threatened to sexually assault the little girl and then pulled his pants down and began masturbating in their direction. Bystanders intervened and Pierce walked away. Redding Police found him in the parking lot of Taco Bell and he was booked into jail for annoying or molesting a child, indecent exposure and criminal threats.
