Two people stopped in a stolen car Saturday tried to get away on foot, according to Redding Police. Just after 10PM an officer made a traffic stop on a Geo Prism in the Wal-Mart parking lot. The driver stopped legally in a parking space, but when the officer ran the plate and learned the car was stolen, other officers arrived. The driver then sped quickly through the parking lot and stopped behind Ashley Furniture. The two occupants ran in opposite directions. The passenger, 29-year-old Christy Vogiatzis, was quickly caught, but the driver jumped fences and ran across Highway 44. Officers captured 24-year-old Michael Steele near Cedarwood and Woodside Meadows, and he was booked into jail along with Vogiatzis.
