Alleged Car Thief Arrested After Ditching Stolen Sports Car

A repeat car thief has landed in jail again for that same crime. 36-year-old Ryan Anderson is on Post Release Supervision from Tehama County for vehicle theft, and he was just arrested by the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office December 20th for possession of a stolen car. Just before 9 O’clock Saturday morning someone called Redding Police to a neighborhood near Victor and Old Alturas for a man seen looking into vehicles in the area. The man was seen leaving in a white sports car with paper Crown Motors plates. The $30,000 Subaru BRZ matched the description of one reported stolen overnight from the dealership. Officers found the car near the Mount Shasta Mall, but the driver quickly drove behind TJ Maxx and ran. A perimeter was set up and Anderson was found behind some bushes off Hilltop. He ran across the street through traffic to the mall parking lot and tried to get over a construction fence, but was arrested after struggling with officers. Surveillance footage was later shown to sheriff’s deputies, apparently showing Anderson, armed with a handgun, trying to get into cars in a neighborhood just east of town.
