Slide Slowing Traffic On Highway 299 In Trinity County

A dirt, rock and mudslide forced a closure on Highway 299 West Wednesday morning. It was first noticed at around 5:30AM and reportedly caused a Subaru Legacy to roll over, flattening all four tires when it landed upright. It’s not known if the occupants were injured. Crews worked on clearing the debris that blocked both lanes in the area between Helena and Big Bar. Cal-Trans was able to get one lane open for awhile, then closed the highway completely. It was reopened around 11:30AM to one-way controlled traffic, with lengthy delays, as long as one to two hours.
