Legislation May Drop Solar Requirement For Rebuilding Fire Victims

Those rebuilding after North State wildfires may not have to abide by a new law in California requiring solar panels as part of the construction, saving homeowners up to $15,000. A measure has been introduced by Brian Dahle and James Gallagher that would exempt home rebuilding or repair if it is in an area where a state of emergency was declared by the Governor. Dahle says the solar mandate has nothing to do with structural safety and is a costly burden to those who have lost everything. Gallagher says it will especially be helpful to those in Paradise where the median income is well below state average.
