A Chico man has been sentenced for crimes committed in the Camp Fire evacuation area. The Butte County District Attorney’s Office reports that 41-year-old Jason Burns-Doak was sentenced to 5 years, 4 months in state prison on charges of possession of contraband and stolen property. On November 12th, a PG&E employee reported 2 men on motorcycles trespassing and apparently engaged in looting. Deputies saw the men run into a house that belongs to Burns-Doak’s mother, who had evacuated the area. A search located many illegal items, including a fully automatic machine gun. A loaded handgun, Meth and Heroin were also found. Outside, deputies found a John Deere utility vehicle stolen from Yuba County in 2017. At the time, Burns-Doaks was suspected in the theft as he’d tried to buy an ignition switch for it. Prosecutors said that he showed no remorse. Judge Michael Deems agreed and gave him to the maximum sentence.
