Arsonist Sentenced for Chase

A man who started a large fire in Shasta County a few years ago has been sentenced for a chase in Tehama County. On Halloween day, the C-H-P got several reports of a reckless driver on Interstate 5. Officers caught up to the car, driven by 39-year-old Daniel Bentley. He led them on a lengthy pursuit, crossing over the median a few times and running over a spike strip. Bentley only stopped when an officer intentionally rammed him with his patrol car. He’s been sentenced to 32 months in state prison. In July of 2016, Bentley intentionally started the Fiddler Fire off of Straight Arrow Road in the Ono area, burning a total of 441 acres. Bentley pled no contest to felony arson, claiming he started the fire in self defense because someone was chasing him and shooting at him. He got a 2 year prison sentence in that case and was ordered to register as an arson offender for life.
