Authorities Remove Over 4000 Pounds Of Trash From Homeless Camp

The Redding Police Department has cleaned up another homeless camp. The Community Clean-Up Team partnered with the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, the Homeless Outreach Officer, and Shasta County Social Services to address pollution in the Palisades Avenue/Sacramento River Trail areas near the Sacramento River waterway. Over 4,000 pounds of garbage and 12 shopping carts were removed. Although the Boise 9th Circuit court case has limited available options for illegal camping enforcement, pollution of waterways is still illegal and allows law enforcement to take action. The revised ordinance that will comply with the current Boise court decision will tentatively go into effect February 16th.
