A man died in a residential fire in the Burney area Tuesday morning when he went back inside to save the dog. Just before 3AM, Burney Fire Protection District and Cal-Fire responded with help from Hat Creek, Montgomery Creek and Cassel to the Las Colinas Mobile Home Park off Highway 299 and Tamarack Avenue. A double wide mobile was fully involved in fire with flames spreading to a home next door. Water was quickly used to douse the surrounding structures. A woman and a man who lived in the home were awakened by a smoke alarm and made it out unharmed, but the man said he was going back inside to save the dog and both he and the dog died in the fire. The woman is being assisted by Red Cross. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
