RPD: Alleged Wallet Thief Arrested After Victim Shares Photos Online

A theft victim’s vigilance and her use of social media led to the arrest of the woman who stole her wallet, according to Redding Police. On Sunday officers were called to Chuck E. Cheese after a woman reported her wallet stolen. The thief immediately began using the victim’s credit cards at nearby stores. The victim tracked the purchases and found the woman at Wal-Mart, where she began filming her, and uploading the video to social media, including a popular local anti-crime Facebook page. That led to people recognizing and identifying the woman as 30-year-old Samantha Morales. Officers began seeking Morales and found her on Wednesday. She was booked into jail for outstanding warrants, trespassing and resisting arrest. The theft case will be submitted to the D.A.’s Office.
