Council Holding Special Meeting To Discuss Law Enforcement Funding

A special meeting of the Redding City Council will take place Thursday night to discuss ways to squeeze more money out of the general fund to give to the police. On January 15th the council voted to fund the four officers of Redding’s Neighborhood Policing Unit, as well as three firefighter positions, by raising development and recreation fees and diverting money from those departments to use for law enforcement. At the time, the council promised to hold a series of workshops to figure out how to flesh more money out of other departments to use for the still-underfunded RPD. The meeting begins at 5 O’clock Thursday afternoon.
