Ordinance Will Restrict Residents From Living On Properties Until Fire Debris Is Removed

The Paradise Town Council has voted to ban living on property until fire debris has been cleared. Butte County Public Health has stated that a public health emergency exists in the town due to the Camp Fire. FEMA and Cal-OES have said that allowing people to live in a public health emergency area will jeopardize the funding which pays for the state debris removal program. Without this funding, the town will not have the resources to remove all the debris. An ordinance had allowed people to live on their property before debris was cleared. The council repealed that ordinance and enacted a new one that bans living on property that was burned until the debris has been cleared.
