NPU Enforcing Municipal Violations Near Cities Parks

Redding’s Neighborhood Police unit spent the day Tuesday patrolling the city’s parks and enforcing municipal code violations. The homeless population, evicted from the now-fenced South City Park, has spread to various other city properties, including the area around City Hall, which Chief Roger Moore has said many use as a safe haven to escape the threat of crimes committed against them by other homeless people. There also remains a sizeable community of homeless near the river’s edge at the east end of Parkview Avenue, as well as across the river among the thick vegetation of the Henderson Open Space. At mid-month, Redding’s new camping ordinance goes into effect and police will have more powers to force people off city property.
