A man was murdered in Happy Valley Wednesday afternoon. Shortly after 5 O’clock a 911 call reporting a gunshot victim sent medical personnel and Shasta County Sheriff’s Deputies to a home on Happy Valley Road at Hidden Ranch Road. When deputies arrived, a man and a woman were standing outside. 34-year-old Michael Patrick O’Connell reportedly admitted immediately that he had shot his friend with a 12 gauge shotgun. The victim was found inside. He had a single gunshot wound to his torso and he was pronounced dead. His identity will be released after family is notified. The sheriff’s office says he was O’Connell’s roommate and the two had been arguing prior to the killing. O’Connell was booked into jail for murder. He’ll be arraigned Friday. The woman was interviewed and released. The sheriff’s office major crimes unit would like to hear from anyone with information about the incident.
