Man Faces Up To 5 Years In Prison After Conviction On Robbery Charges

A man who got away on a bicycle after stealing from a market in Lakehead has been convicted by a Shasta County jury. On August First of last year 30-year-old Leonard Leon Lewis Jr. of Waco, Texas stole multiple items from a Shell Station in Redding. Two days later he was in Lakehead, where he went into Jack’s Market on Lakeshore Drive, took several items, and walked out without paying. The owner and some customers confronted him in the parking lot but he pushed the woman who owned the store to the ground and fought off the bystanders before escaping on a bicycle. The Lakehead resident sheriff’s deputy arrived just nine minutes later, but despite an hour-long search with help from the CHP and a sheriff’s K9, Lewis was not found. The following morning, a CHP Officer on I-5 north of Vollmers saw a man matching the description riding a bicycle on the freeway and took him into custody. He was found guilty Thursday of charges including felony 2nd degree robbery. He’ll be sentenced March First and faces up to 5 years in prison.
