REU Outages Down To 1500 Customers, PG&E Outages Stand At 24K

Electricians have been working around the clock trying to get the lights back on for Northern California. Redding Electric Utility with mutual aid from other public utility crews are most of the way to their goal. The massive outage began with more than 30,000 of REU’s 45,000 customers in the dark on Wednesday morning. That number is now down to around 1500. Friday crews are working on Eastside Road, South Bonnyview and the Western Oaks and Alta Mesa Neighborhoods. REU says a number of those are homes and businesses that have damage to the privately owned equipment on their property that will have to be repaired by an electrical contractor. Lines that are down should be assumed to be live and can be reported at 245-7000. PG&E reported around 60,000 customers without electricity at the start of Wednesday and as of Friday morning there are still around 24,000 of their customers without electricity in Shasta County. Officials in the City of Shasta Lake are reporting that 90% of the city’s electrical grid has been restored.
