Redding Among Cities Selected For Wildfire Risk Assessment Program

The City of Redding is bringing in some outside experts to do some planning to reduce wildfire risk. The “Community Planning Assistance For Wildfire” Program will provide national perspectives and customize their recommendations for Redding to help reduce the impact of major disasters such as the Carr Fire. The program won’t cost the city a dime as it’s funded through the U.S. Forest Service and private foundations. Redding is one of four cities selected nationally to participate in the program this year. The team is working directly with the fire department and planning department to create development strategies for the city’s wildland-urban interface areas. The team will do a field tour over the next couple of days and a public stakeholder meeting will be held Thursday morning at 9:30AM at city hall.
