Suspect Captured After Attempted Robbery At Dollar General

A robbery at an East Redding variety store was thwarted by pure stubborn resolve Sunday. Employees said they couldn’t comment, but witnesses told us about the incident at the Dollar General on Meadowview just off Airport Road. At around 1:25PM two masked men walked up to the cashier’s counter and demanded money. No weapon was seen, but one of the suspects said somebody would get hurt if they didn’t comply. The woman working the cash register said the police were already on their way and both men ran out the door empty handed. Multiple agencies responded and a witness who saw the men run from the store thought it seemed suspicious and followed one of the suspects, directing deputies to the man about a quarter mile from the store on Airport Road. 22-year-old Anthony Castaneda was taken into custody and identified by employees and witnesses. Despite a search with an RPD K9 and a CHP helicopter, the other robber remains at large. He’s described only as a white man with a medium build. His clothing was found near the scene.
