Storm Waters Recede In South Redding

Residents who were evacuated from their South Redding homes last night have been allowed to return Wednesday. A number of people were ordered to leave their homes in the Safari Mobile Home Park, Emerald Lane, Jewel Lane, Alvin Lane and Laguna Honda Drive after Olney Creek and the A.C.I.D. Canal ran over their banks and left some of the homes in several feet of water. Redding fire engines were used to help people through the deep water, and RABA buses were then used to transport some of the evacuees to the Red Cross Evacuation Center set up at Juniper School on Ellis Street. The water began receding Wednesday morning and residents were allowed back into their homes, some of which sustained very serious water damage. The heavy rains also were too much for the roof at Sav-More Foods in the Westwood Village Shopping Center. Part of the roof collapsed Tuesday night, forcing the closure of the supermarket for an unknown period of time.
