Big Rig Driver Killed On I-5 In Siskiyou County

A deadly big rig crash closed Northbound Interstate Five Thursday morning in Siskiyou County. Just after 5AM a Reddaway big rig towing double trailers was blocking the northbound lanes after it became jackknifed and struck the hillside between Anderson Grade Summit and the Collier Rest Area. The driver, a 59-year-old man from Galt, was found deceased on the right shoulder of the freeway, but it wasn’t immediately apparent how he had died because there were no other vehicles around. A few miles away, CHP Officers found a Volvo big rig, driven by a 35-year-old Sacramento man. That driver was interviewed and it was learned that he had struck the other driver, who had gotten out of the cab of his jackknifed truck. Any possible witnesses are asked to contact the Yreka CHP office at 842-0530.
