Forest Service Plans To Continue Prescribed Burning Near Lake Shasta

A significant amount of smoke will likely be seen starting on Monday rising from the Packers Bay Area of Lake Shasta south of O’Brien Mountain and west of Interstate Five. The “Northwoods Deuce” Fuels Reduction Project involves prescribed fires and mechanical treatment to eliminate ladder fuels and dead material on about 1,250 acres to reduce the severity of wildfires. The first phase in December was about 600 acres. The Forest Service will continue on about 250 acres, as weather and air quality allow.
