Shasta County Public Health officials are sounding the alarm about Measles exposure. One case has been confirmed in Shasta County, considered part of a cluster that includes cases in Butte and Tehama Counties. Public health says it’s vital that everyone be immunized, which cuts the chance of catching Measles if exposed to less than 1%. The virus is highly contagious, and becomes airborne when an infected person coughs or sneezes. Fever, cough, runny nose and red watery eyes are followed by a rash that starts along the hairline of the face or behind the ears, then spreads. It’s potentially fatal, particularly for infants, pregnant women and those with weakened immune systems. Exposure may have occurred at the following places and times:
— Taco Bell at Old Alturas and Friendly March 16th from 11AM to 4PM and March 17th from 6AM to Noon
— Shasta College 800 building March 19th from 9:30AM to Noon and 3:30PM to 5PM
— Shasta College Library March 19th from Noon to 4:30PM
— The Raley’s Supermarket on Lake Boulevard in Redding on March 19 from 11AM to 12:30PM
— The Red Bluff Wal-Mart March 16th from 5PM to 7PM
— The Red Bluff Raley’s March 18th from 6PM to 7PM
Anyone who’s been to these places at these times should remain isolated and call a doctor or call 225-5591.
