A CHP helicopter and a Redding Police K9 were both key elements in the capture of a wanted man Sunday afternoon in East Redding. At 10:30AM a woman on Conifer Way reported her sister’s ex-boyfriend was in her backyard and seemed to be on Methamphetamine. She said she had seen him with a gun in past. 30-year-old Miles Calvert had an active warrant for violating a court order, but he was gone before officers arrived. At around 1PM an officer on Hartnell Avenue talked to Calvert, who gave a false name and then took off running north into the neighborhood. The CHP helicopter crew saw him jumping fences and running through backyards. A perimeter was set up to contain Calvert while Officer Travis Williams was called from home with Otto the K9. Some residents of Parsons Street fled their home and told officers a man had entered uninvited. Moments later Calvert was seen in a backyard a few houses away. Officers broke the fence to allow Otto in, and he quickly took Calvert down. He was booked for trespassing, prowling and resisting, among other charges.
