Multi-Agency Sweep Results In Several Arrests In Happy Camp

An all-night special enforcement was done in Happy Camp over the weekend in response to residents’ complaints about late night criminal activity expressed at a recent town hall meeting. From 6 O’clock Saturday night to 6 O’clock Sunday morning, law enforcement personnel from the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office, the U.S. Forest Service, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, and the Karuk Tribe fanned across the Happy Camp area for saturation patrols, field contacts, traffic stops, camp site monitoring, and checks of local businesses, government structures and tribal facilities. 39-year-old Daniel Magana, stopped for riding a bicycle without a light, was found to have 4 active warrants, and he was reportedly in possession of a significant amount of Methamphetamine and Heroin for sale. After he was booked into jail, he was searched more intimately and allegedly found to have another three bindles of Heroin. There were also about 30 security checks, 8 traffic stops and 15 field interviews done, resulting in several other citations and arrests. Sheriff Jon Lopey says more special operations will be done in the future when they are least expected.
