Orland Man Sentenced To Prison For Attempting To Kill Game Warden

A man from Orland has been sentenced for trying to kill a game warden with his car. Last September 3rd, a State Fish and Wildlife Warden contacted 35-year-old Phien Khamsavang as he was fishing in the area of Woodson Bridge and Gardiner Ferry Road in Corning. While checking on whether Khamsavang had a valid fishing license, the warden discovered that he had multiple misdemeanor warrants out of Glenn County. When the warden attempted to make an arrest, Khamsavang attacked him, and then ran toward his car. The warden used his Taser on him twice but it was ineffective and Khamsavang was able to get into his car, which he then drove directly at the warden. Just as the warden slipped into the drivers seat of his truck, the car struck the side of it, pinning his arm between the vehicles. Khamsavang then tried to get away in his car but it became disabled. He was captured on foot a short distance away by other game wardens and CHP Officers who were responding for backup. Khamsavang has been convicted of attempted murder and resisting arrest and sentenced to 9 years 8 months in state prison.
