A Butte County family is rejoicing after the safe recovery of a man and his 2 young children. The Butte County Sheriff’s Office was called early Monday morning by the wife of 25-year-old Michael Mercado. He had taken their children, ages 7 and 2, to the area above Stirling City Sunday around Noon and she hadn’t heard from them since. The blue Jeep Wrangler they were in was found in the Inskip area. Search and rescue personnel scoured the area along with a large contingent of mutual aid resources. Just before One O’clock Tuesday morning, Mercado’s wife called the sheriff’s office and said someone had found them and drove them home. They were in good shape and needed no medical attention.
