Park Service Releases Review Of Carr Fire

The Park Service has released to the public a review of the Carr Fire. The most significant disaster in Shasta County history started last July 23rd along Highway 299 inside Whiskeytown National Recreation Area from a mechanical failure of a travel trailer. Five weeks later it had destroyed 229,651 acres and 1,604 structures, including 1,077 homes. Two firefighters and four civilians were killed as a direct result of the fire. The Carr Fire forced the evacuation of 38,000 people and created a fire vortex with wind speeds of more than 165 miles an hour, the equivalent of an F3 tornado. The Park Service study says the damage totaled over 1.6 Billion Dollars. The “After Action Review” can be viewed through this link.
