Suspects Sought After Destroying 80 Bee Boxes

A reward is offered for anonymous tips about a honeybee massacre. The crime occurred a couple of weeks ago in a field off of Poppy Hills Drive east of Twin View Boulevard at a bee yard owned by Josh and Wendy Sullivan. Someone drove a pickup truck into the yard and completely destroyed more than 80 of the bee boxes. After discovering the damage, Josh Sullivan put several of the hives back together so the swarming and confused bees would have somewhere to go and re-establish themselves. The vandal returned to the scene at 7PM that evening and busted up the repaired hives. Photos of the suspect vehicle are on the KQMS Facebook page. It’s a dark-colored Dodge crewcab pickup truck with a lift kit, oversized tires and chrome bumpers. The Sullivans’ estimate the loss at as much as $50,000, as well as the loss of ongoing income from the queen-raising operation. A $2500 reward is available for anonymous tips at 243-2319 or scsecretwitness.com.
