Shooting Suspect Arraigned On Attempted Murder Charges

A man suspected of shooting another man outside the Redding Library has appeared in court. 36-year-old Alex Santivanezcortez was shot in the neck during a confrontation Monday afternoon. He gave a statement to Redding Police before being taken away by ambulance. He’s expected to survive. Police reviewed surveillance video and reportedly saw David Anthony Escudero walking through the library as if he was looking for someone, and frequently grabbing at his waistband as if he had a gun. On his way out of the library, he confronted Santivanezcortez, and apparently kicked him repeatedly. Police say Escudero left and returned a short time later to shoot the other man. He was later arrested at a home on Wonderland Boulevard. Police have said they believe the shooting was gang-related. Escudero was arraigned Thursday for attempted murder, criminal threats, possession of a gun and ammo by a felon, and a number of enhancements. Escudero has two prior strike convictions. His bail is at $500,000.
