A vegetation fire that frightened some North Redding residents was caused by carelessness, according to a Redding Fire Investigator. The fire was reported a little after 7 O’clock Thursday night in the greenbelt behind the Pepper Tree Apartments off Hilltop Drive. The first arriving firefighters said it had a moderate rate of spread and they made a quick attack, containing the fire in about 20 minutes. It was held to about an acre and a half. The cause was determined to be two children playing with matches.
